His Take: Far From Being a safe and natural route to lose weight, so-called hot teas are full of herbal ingredients that cause rapid and temporary weight loss through diuresis and looseness. In other words, you pee excessive amounts of fluid and your bowels cause hard laxatives.

Some of the most common ingredients you will find are things like senna, rhubarb root, buckthorn, cascara, castor oil, dandelion leaf, cassia, burdock, catsia and prunella. These are herbs, but they can always dehydrate you. And laxatives could be addictive, making it difficult for you to have natural bowel movements without them.
